This colorful, playful quilt stitches up quickly and easily. You could use coordinated fabrics, or you might dig into your collection and bust those scraps. Prints or solids are equally lovely in this design. Two very different colorways are shown in the illustrations. The finished quilt is 42" x 50", a great size for either a child or for a lap quilt.
The center nine blocks of the quilt create a traditional Storm at Sea design. The rest of the quilt uses different variations of block positioning that fill the quilt with movement. Blocks are 8" x 8", so the quilt goes together quickly.
The entire quilt is made from repetitions of only three different triangle blocks. Each of the three blocks is constructed with a piecing technique unlike either of the others. The quilt can be a wonderful teaching too for new quilters learning to work with triangles. Blocks are large and appropriate for both beginners and experienced quilters. The small square in a square uses a very common piecing method. The large square in a square is formed in a different way in order to prevent substantial fabric waste. The long, thin diamond block is put together with the use of templates.
The pattern includes complete instruction with lots of photos, illustrations and diagrams to demonstrate each step of the construction. Templates for the long diamond block are included.
